Johnny Depp Headed Down Burton's Rabbit Hole To 'Wonderland'?

Where there’s smoke there’s fire and similarly, where there’s Tim Burton, Johnny Depp is usually not far behind, right? Obviously Burton just cast little-known Australian actress Mia Wasikowska (HBO’s “In Treatment”) as the lead in his adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s classic, “Alice In Wonderland” project, but now unconfirmed reports from the U.K. are claiming Depp will play the role of the Mad Hatter (a picture that’s set for 3D too, btw).

Considering how many times they’ve worked together and how they’re wont to continue on this path, we’re less than skeptical as we usually are. The U.K. Sun’s source says Burton has had designs on the “Alice In Wonderland” story for years, which is kind of like saying, “hey, did you know Tim Burton likes Halloween???”

“He’s held out on doing Alice till he got a big enough budget. Now this film is financed by Disney so money won’t be a problem,” claims the mole. We have nothing witty to add. Probably because Depp would be well suited for the role even if Burton’s films have been mostly rehashed eh in recent years. Something like “Willy Wonka” was problematic, but Depp was pretty excellent in it as the child-detesting psychopath candy-maker.
