Okay, here’s an odd one. So, Justin Long was interviewed by Long Island News Day, in a piece published a few weeks ago. But it has picked up interest because the actor seemingly randomly name dropped/humblebragged about a major star popping up in Kevin Smith‘s forthcoming “Tusk.” Either that or something went horribly awry in the transcription process.
Anyway, when asked by the paper what movies he had coming up, Long replied: “Yeah, the one where a man turns into a war horse. It’s called ‘Tusk.’ Johnny Depp is in that one. I’m working on something coming up later.”
Again, it could all being a mistake and maybe the interview somehow mistook Haley Joel Osment for Johnny Depp or something. And it should be noted, that the movie is not about a man being turned into a “war horse”; the horror flick is about a man who tries to transform someone into a walrus. So again, could be something lost in translation.
But The Wrap is going with it, and they believe that Depp is playing “a French-Canadian inspector who investigates the bizarre case at the center of the film.” That said, no reps from the studio or film have confirmed anything. However, Smith was trying to get a big star for a small, yet important part in the movie (Quentin Tarantino turned him down), so who knows. But it seems weird that Long would give up the goods, just like that.
So sure, anything is possible, but for right now, all we have is quote from Long and rumors swirling that it could be Depp. Update: Slashfilm also heard word that Depp is indeed the surprise of “Tusk.” Did Long just let the cat out of the bag?
