Johnny Depp Says "I'm In" For '21 Jump Street' Cameo (But No One Has Asked Him Yet)

As “21 Jump Street” keeps moving forward toward its production start next year with Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum in the lead roles, the biggest wishlist hopeful/question surrounding the film is if Johnny Depp would make a cameo appearance in the film version of the television show that helped launch his career. Turns out, he’d be game but no one has asked him. Yet.

“I’ve said I’m into it, but no one’s actually approached me,” Depp told MTV during interviews for “The Tourist.” He tells adds that someone needs to tell Jonah Hill saying, “Call him. I’m in. I’m. I think it’d be pretty easy.”

We think that would be a pretty fun cameo for what already sounds like an irreverent take on the source material. Penned by “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” writer Michael Bacall, the R-rated comedy has been described as a “John Hughes meets “Bad Boys” film about “a couple of dudes who haven’t quite worked out their emotional issues with high school who are returning to high school”. The film will be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the duo behind the pleasant animated surprise, “Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs.”

So will Depp swashbuckle his way onto the set of “21 Jump Street”? We hope so. Certainly he can spare a day or two from shooting “Dark Shadows” to hang with Hill and Tatum. The film hits on March 16, 2012.
