Though the production delays of major films such as “Mission: Impossible 7,” “The Matrix 4,” “Avatar 2,” and the various projects at Marvel Studios seem to be getting a lot of headlines due to the COVID-19 pandemic, TV is probably in a worse spot. With seasons of series already wrapped up for the year, pretty much all new installments of shows have been delayed due to the pandemic, leaving networks and streaming services without much to offer this fall. But in the case of Disney+ and the highly-anticipated Season 2 of “The Mandalorian,” it appears that everything is still on course for a fall debut.
Speaking as part of a recent TV panel (via THR), Jon Favreau talked about the scheduling for “The Mandalorian” Season 2 and confirmed the production was able to finish before the COVID-19 pandemic shut everything down.
“We were lucky enough to have finished photography before the lock down,” Favreau said. “Thanks to how technology-forward Lucasfilm and ILM are, we have been able to do all of our visual effects and editing and post-production remotely through systems that had been set up by those companies for us.”
While we don’t have an official release date for Season 2, the folks at Disney have already teased that “The Mandalorian” is expected to return in October.
But “The Mandalorian” isn’t the only “Star Wars” series that Disney+ has in the works right now. In addition to Favreau’s hit show, the streaming service is also working on a “Cassian Andor” show and the long-awaited solo series about Obi-Wan Kenobi. Unfortunately, that latter series has found itself in trouble with Lucasfilm having to go back to the drawing board in regards to scripts.

Speaking about the status of the project, “Obi-Wan” director Deborah Chow didn’t have much to add but did say,” …we are in development still.” Well, okay. Fingers crossed this still happens.
So, even though the already sparse selection of upcoming programs for Disney+ seemed to be further delayed by the pandemic, it appears that the folks at Lucasfilm are still on track to deliver a new season of “The Mandalorian” in October and some other series in the near future.
