Jon Favreau Reveals Live-Action 'Star Wars' TV Series Is Called 'The Mandalorian' & Gives A Synopsis

Star Wars” fans finally got some answers about the long-awaited live-action TV series that’s coming soon to the Disney streaming service. Thanks to a post by writer/producer (and possible director?) Jon Favreau, we know the title of the series and get a brief synopsis of what the plot might entail.

So, before his post, due to set pictures and rumors, fans knew the series would feature the planet of Mandalore, which is comprised of Mandalorians such as popular character Boba Fett. So, naturally, the title of the series is “The Mandalorian.” Not the most exciting title ever, but definitely gets the job done.

However, the plot of the series sounds like it might appease those fans that have been hoping for a standalone Boba Fett film. Well, sort of.

Favreau’s synopsis posted to Instagram reads:

“After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the ‘Star Wars’ universe. ‘The Mandalorian’ is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”

While the series probably won’t feature Boba Fett, the “lone gunman” character does sound like it could become a similar type of character as the famed bounty hunter. The synopsis also confirms one of the rumored details that the series will take place post-‘Return of the Jedi,” but before ‘The Force Awakens.’ That period of time has been ripe for Lucasfilm to develop, as “Star Wars Rebels,” spin-off novels, and comic books have been filling in that 30-year gap already.

Plus, it’s great to see that the first live-action TV series has nothing to do with the Skywalker Saga that has been the focus of all the films to this point.

There’s no release date set for the series, as the Disney streaming service hasn’t been officially announced yet. But with production going on now, it’s reasonable to expect “The Mandalorian” to hit your streaming screen sometime in 2019.
