‘Fletch’ Lives! Jon Hamm To Star In A Reboot Of The Comedy Franchise From ‘Superbad’ Director

Despite being mostly known for his work in the ‘Vacation’ franchise, Chevy Chase’s talent is probably fully on display best in his “Fletch” films. The features follow the story of a journalist/ex-marine that investigates all sorts of mysteries, leading to plenty of comedic hijinks. And now, it appears that “Fletch” is returning, more than 30 years after the last film, but without Chase in the lead role.

According to Deadline, Jon Hamm is set to produce and star in a reboot of “Fletch,” which will be directed by Greg Mottola and set up through Miramax. The film is said to be inspired by the second book in the original novel series by author Gregory Mcdonald, titled “Confess, Fletch.” The film will follow the story of Irwin “Fletch” Fletcher as the character finds himself the prime suspect in a murder. And now, he must use his skills to prove his innocence and find the real culprit. The new film will be written by Zev Borow, a producer on the recent “Lethal Weapon” TV series.

As mentioned, the new “Fletch” feature will be helmed by Mottola, who is best known as the filmmaker behind the wildly successful comedy, “Superbad.” Recently, he’s been directing TV series such as “The Newsroom” and FX’s comedy series, “Dave.” His most recent feature, “Keeping Up with the Joneses,” teamed him with Hamm back in 2016.

“Fletch’s duration over audiences-whether told on paper or the big screen- entertains all and we could not be more thrilled to see what twenty-first-century twist these artists create,” says Miramax CEO Bill Block. says Miramax CEO Bill Block.

“Producing this film with Jon has been a long-time dream of mine and with Zev and Greg on board to write and direct, I really believe that this will be an exciting and modern reimagining of this beloved character,” says producer Connie Tavel.

Obviously, it’s far too early to know when the new “Fletch” might arrive in theaters.
