Jordan Peele's 'Us' Selected As Opening Night Film Of 2019 SXSW Film Festival

Folks attending the 2019 SXSW Film Festival won’t only get a chance to enjoy the normally great selection of films that will debut as part of the annual Austin, Texas event, but will also be the first people to experience Jordan Peele’s upcoming “Get Out” follow-up film, “Us.”

According to THR, Peele is taking his film “Us” to this year’s SXSW for a premiere on the opening night of the March film festival. Debuting a week ahead of it’s planned March 15 release, the horror-thriller, that is probably one of the year’s most anticipated films of the year, will get the coveted headlining slot at the popular event.

“We are crazy excited to world premiere the most anticipated film of 2019 from the creative powerhouse that brought us ‘Get Out,’” Janet Pierson, director of film at SXSW, said. “We honestly couldn’t imagine a more perfect film to kick off the 2019 SXSW Film Festival.”

If last year is any indication, then Peele is in good hands, as the 2018 SXSW Film Festival saw the debuts of some of the biggest films of the year, including “A Quiet Place,” “Blockers,” and “Isle of Dogs.” Not only that, but the event also featured some of the best indies of the year that factored into many Best of 2018 lists, including “Thunder Road,” “Support the Girls,” and “A Prayer Before Dawn.” Oh, and for those interested in the more schlocky side of things, last year’s festival also saw the premiere of “Upgrade,” which was criminally underseen and a way better “Venom” movie than the actual “Venom.”
