“Inception” star Joseph Gordon-Levitt is set to reunite with Christopher Nolan in the director’s upcoming superhero film, “The Dark Knight Rises.” While his role is currently unknown (he was rumored to be playing The Riddler for much of last year but Nolan put the kibosh on that villain making an appearance), Deadline reports that the 29-year-old actor is in talks to take a part in the last installment of Nolan’s Batman trilogy.
Production on the film is expected to start in May. So far, the actors cast in “The Dark Knight Rises” include Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy and presumably the previous members of the ensemble cast such as Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine. Gordon-Levitt starred as Arthur in “Inception,” Leonardo DiCaprio‘s right-hand man in dream architecture theft. Arguably both Gordon-Levitt and Hardy stole the picture, so perhaps it’s no surprise that both of them are continuing on as part of Nolan’s growing troupe (some of you may remember we predicted many from the “Inception” cast would turn up in the third “Batman” film).
Gordon-Levitt is scheduled to star in Rian Johnson’s “Looper” which started shooting in New Orleans last month, and the actor is also set for work in China, but he’ll be finished by the time “The Dark Knight Rises” goes into production. Who will he play? We suppose it’s time to let the speculation begin, but we do know that Hathaway will play Selina Kyle (better known as Catwoman) and Hardy will play the villain Bane. “The Dark Knight Rises” is already set for a July 20, 2012 release date.
