Actor Josh Brolin has to be riding high right about now. With long-awaited debuts of his characters Thanos, in the upcoming “Avengers: Infinity War,” and Cable, in “Deadpool 2,” Brolin is pretty much the King of comic book fandom. But in a couple recent interviews, the actor doesn’t talk about these future hit films. Instead, he ponders the “What if?” scenarios that have plagued him over the last several years.
Do you remember the 2010 film “Jonah Hex?” Probably not. And the star of the film, Brolin, probably wishes anyone who does remember the film immediately forget the debacle. Starring alongside Megan Fox, Brolin played the DC Comics cowboy with a scarred face. The film is laughably bad, but according to the actor, it could have been very, very different.
“That was my fault. I had really good intentions,” he said, in an interview with Empire Magazine. “[Director Chan-Wook Park] was right on the verge of saying yes. I think the movie would have turned out closer to my intention, which was ‘High Plains Drifter.’”
Can you even begin to fathom the difference that the “Oldboy” director could have brought to the production? What turned out to be a completely horrible comic book adaptation could have been one of the strangest, but beautiful and interesting, westerns in recent memory. If only.

Brolin also discussed the rumor that was going around that he was on the shortlist to play Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, in “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” which even typing the title sends shivers down my spine. Apparently, there was some truth to the rumors, but it didn’t pan out. However, he’s not mad about it.
“We indirectly talked about it, but we never got to the point because I wasn’t the guy for [director Zack Snyder],” Brolin explains. “I’m really glad it didn’t happen. I haven’t thought twice about it.”
It doesn’t take a telepath to know what Brolin was thinking there. Clearly, the actor knows he dodged a bullet by not signing on for the DC Universe film, which turned out to be the beginning of a rollercoaster ride over at Warner Bros. And Ben Affleck, who did land the role of Batman, has never been the same.
But Brolin did attach himself to the ‘Avengers’ mega-franchise and will show up as Thanos in the upcoming superhero epics ‘Infinity War’ and (possibly) ‘Avengers 4.’ No one has confirmed his involvement in the fourth ‘Avengers’ film, but Brolin has talked about it in the past, and in a new quote from an interview with Total Film magazine, he all but guarantees it by mentioning how he filmed scenes opposite “Captain Marvel” star Brie Larson.
“You’ve got to walk around in a onesie and imagine yourself as an actor with some impact. It starts messing with your head. I’m Josh, who’s got dots on him, and a onesie, and a helmet can, and I’ve got Scarlett right there, and I’ve got Brie, and Don Cheadle, and [Chris] Hemsworth, and Chris Evans, and [Robert] Downey…I’m sitting there and I’m looking like I look, which is not 700lb and purple and eight feet tall,” said the actor, when describing filming scenes in his motion-capture suit for the ‘Avengers’ films.
Brie Larson has been confirmed as not showing up in ‘Infinity War,’ so that leaves the fourth ‘Avengers’ film as the only opportunity that the two will be able to go toe-to-toe.
We’ll know for sure when the Josh Brolin Train departs April 27 in “Avengers: Infinity War” followed by May 18, when he’ll star in “Deadpool 2.”
