Judd Apatow will reteam with “Freaks And Geeks” collaborator Paul Feig for Kristen Wiig’s upcoming wedding comedy, “Bridemaids.”
The project marks the first time Apatow and Feig has worked together since their ’99-’00 NBC television show with Apatow obviously moving on to make a name for himself producing and directing comedy features while Feig predominantly focused on television, producing and directing “The Office” for which he was Emmy-nominated for.
Feig now finds himself behind the camera for “Bridesmaids” which was written by Wiig and Annie Mumolo with the “Saturday Night Live” star also set to lead the story of two women battling to plan their friend’s wedding party. James Bobin of “Flight Of The Conchords” fame was offered the gig before Feig but turned it down to replace Nicholas Stoller on Jason Segel’s ‘Muppets’ movie.
Apatow, Barry Mendel, Wiig and Mumolo will produce the project for Universal with Feig also acting as executive producer. Note THR, dubs it an untitled wedding-themed comedy, but “Bridesmaids” title has been making the rounds in the trades for some time now.
