It’s been 25 years since Apatow last attempted stand-up comedy, and certainly, his career has been just fine. He can count “Freaks And Geeks,” “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” “Trainwreck,” “Girls,” and more to his credit. However, returning to the stage and telling jokes means it’s just Apatow and the audience — nothing more, nothing less. And that’s the thrill comedians seek, hoping the jokes land, and taking the immediate hit if they don’t. Certainly, he won’t be getting any loving support from Amy Schumer and Mike Birbiglia, who rib him on his attempt at stand-up.

See how Apatow fares when “Judd Apatow: The Return” hits Netflix on December 12th.
