“Ghostbusters 3” is under the auspices of Judd Apatow productions, yes?
Nope, not according to the L.A. Times, who spoke to Columbia chief Doug Belgrad. Yes, ‘G3’ is being written by “The Office” scribes Lee Eisenberg and Greg Stupnitsky, who also wrote the Apatow produced biblical comedy “Year One,” directed by “Ghostbusters” alum Harold Ramis later this summer, but that’s apparently only a convenient coincidence according to the studio president.
Belgrad elucidates, “It’s not true. We have some great new writers working on a new script, but Judd isn’t involved. Judging from the frenzy on the Internet, there still seems to be plenty of interest in the idea of doing another film, so we’re certainly taking that as a good sign.”
Umm, you’ll remember that no one really said that Apatow was directly involved other than saying the film was being produced by Apatow productions (at least we didn’t). This might just end up being a story about language clarification.
Though when the news first broke and we questioned it, Production Weekly (who first broke the news) wrote us to clarify. “Apatow is just credited as a producer on the sequel,” they wrote. “In what capacity of creative involvement he will lend to the project is undetermined at this time.” Dan Aykroyd has said he hopes the film will be ready for production in the fall.
