Back in April, viewers were given a quick teaser of the upcoming creepy thriller series, “The Third Day,” which is set to debut on HBO and Sky later this year. The series has serious “Wicker Man” vibes, as it follows Sam (Jude Law) as he finds himself trapped on a remote British island that is filled with seemingly idyllic conditions but quickly reveals itself to have a darker, ritualistic underbelly. But as is now known, it appears there’s a lot more to “The Third Day” than just the six-episode series that viewers can watch.
According to a listing of the series on Punchdrunk International, “The Third Day” is actually going to begin by airing three episodes of the series, lumped in a grouping titled “Summer.” Those episodes are written by Dennis Kelly and directed by Marc Munden and detail the events that bring Sam to the island and his discovery that there’s more than meets the eye.
From there, that’s when things get strange. After the first three episodes air, the cast and crew of “The Third Day” will take part in a live stage show that will be airing on TV and online, which will follow the cast and their characters during a real-time day in the life of the residents of the island. The live production will be directed by Felix Barrett and will be shot in one continuous take.

After the stage show, the final three episodes of the series will air, dubbed “Winter,” and will be written by Kit de Waal, Dean O’Loughlin, and Dennis Kelly and directed by Philippa Lowthorpe. Those episodes will find Naomie Harris in the starring role as Helen, a woman drawn to the mysterious island seeking answers.
That’s a lot of information to take in, and there will be a test on this later, so I hope you kept notes. Needless to say, The upcoming miniseries, which was already one of our most anticipated series of the year, is now even more intriguing with the addition of the live show that will tie the two halves together. HBO is showing the series outside of the UK and it’s unclear if the network will find a way to air the live show, as well.
