Judge Dredd TV Show 'Mega-City One' Is Written And Ready To Go, Show On Hold Due To Pandemic

It’s been a long road for Dredd. Back in 2017 it was announced that a TV show based on the comicbook character, titled “Mega-City One” was in the works. Things have been pretty quiet since then, but we now have a big update courtesy of Jason Kingsley, CEO of comics publisher Rebellion (who holds the rights to the character). According to Kingsley, the show is already written and ready to go, but the ongoing pandemic put a hold on things.

Kingsley was recently a guest on the V2A Emergency Broadcast System YouTube series, and of course, he was asked for an update on the Dredd show. “I want there to be a sequel to [the 2012 movie “Dredd“],” Kingsley said. “We’ve got the rights back so we can do it, we’ve just got to get rid of this virus thing that’s going on at the moment, and then hopefully things can kick off in all sorts of different areas of making film and TV, it’s just, it’s all very messed up at the moment for everybody.”

“A lot of work as been done on all sorts of different scripts actually,” he added. “So ‘Mega-City One’ the TV show, basically we can’t go into production because of the [situation] and we’ve got scripts and everything is ready to go but the problem is, because of the pandemic and everybody’s funding changes and everybody’s shifting around.”

We’ve previously heard Karl Urban express interest in reprising his role from the 2012 film, as the film became a cult hit over the years. When asked about who he’d like to see make an appearance on the show, Kingsley said “Well if we can get people back, you know, we even joked that it would be quite fun to get Stallone back.”

Sadly, no matter how many scripts are written, it doesn’t matter if you have nowhere to show the actual thing. Kingsley confirmed they haven’t secured a deal with any network or streaming, but said there are discussions which are “quite a long way down the road.”
