It’s the arthouse film world equivalent of Biggie vs. Tupac, as last week, quotes from a recent interview with Gerard Depardieu for Austrian magazine Profil revealed some harsh words from the actor about his fellow countrywoman saying, “Please can you explain to me what the secret of this actress is meant to be? I would really like to know why she has been so esteemed for so many years. She has nothing. Absolutely nothing!” He goes on to add she can’t hold a candle to Isabelle Adjani or Fanny Ardant.
Well, Juliette Binoche has responded and proves herself to be a bit more classy than Depardieu. When asked by Empire what she believes might have motivated Depardieu’s comments, Binoche isn’t quite sure but thinks he’s either jealous, or he saw her latest film “Certified Copy” and didn’t like it. But she wasn’t personally hurt by his words and thinks they are more indicative of some issues he might personally be having.
