You might remember from last month the semi-dramatic news that “Jurassic Park IV” — originally and somewhat ambitiously slated for a 2014 release while still scouting locations and without a cast yet to be revealed — went on hold in order that director Colin Trevorrow and co. could have “adequate time to bring audiences the best possible version of the fourth installment.” Well, it looks like they’re getting all the time in the world.
It isn’t quite official, but usually studios and marketing work hand-in-glove, so it’s likely not far off-base. ComingSoon are currently attending Licensing Expo 2013 and within the grand halls of some Las Vegas conference center, a banner for “Jurassic Park” was spotted with a 2015 date stamped on it. Some further digging within some promo materials on hand revealed the movie will not so shockingly be lensed in 3D, because why not.
Of course, this doesn’t really answer any of the remaining pressing questions about the sequel, including what’s going on with the production crew that were let go and if those rumored disagreements behind closed doors that first halted the movie are still ongoing. What a full year bump suggests is that despite 80% of the work from the Art Department being finished, the retooling might be more extensive than originally planned and/or Universal perhaps realized that rushing this out the door would probably be more damaging to the brand than beneficial.
Either way, we’ll have to wait a bit longer for dinosaurs to roam the earth again but with “The Avengers 2,” “Star Wars: Episode VII,” “The Fantastic Four,” “Ant-Man,” “Pirates Of The Caribbean 5” and finale of “The Hunger Games” all due in 2015 (and let’s not forget a possible “Man Of Steel 2“), 2015 is already going to be nerd heaven at the mulitplex.
