'Justified: City Primeval': Timothy Olyphant Officially Set To Star In A Revival Of The Acclaimed FX Series

Remember a year ago when it was revealed that Timothy Olyphant might just return for a spinoff from the “JustifiedFX series? At the time, it seemed as if this was going to be a new series that just so happened to feature a small role for Olyphant’s U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens. Well, apparently, that’s not the case at all. The new series is actually a full-blown “Justified” revival. Because you know, why come up with new series when you can just revive old ones?

As reported by Variety, Timothy Olyphant is officially set to return as Raylan Givens in the new series, “Justified: City Primeval.” The series is set eight years after the end of “Justified” with Givens leaving Kentucky behind to settle down in Miami and raise his 14-year-old daughter. Well, wouldn’t you know it? An encounter in Florida sends him to Detroit where he finds himself on the hunt of a dangerous sociopath who has eluded the police.

Dave Andron and Michael Dinner will serve as writers, showrunners, and executive producers on the new series. Dinner is actually going to perform double-duty, also directing the series.

“‘Justified’ was one of the most critically acclaimed shows of the past decade and an adaption of Elmore Leonard’s work that was so colorfully brought to life by Timothy Olyphant as Raylan Givens, Graham Yost and the entire team of producers, writers, directors and cast,” said Eric Schrier, president of FX Entertainment. “To have this group come together again with Tim as Raylan in a new and different Elmore Leonard story is thrilling. I want to thank our showrunners Dave and Michael, and their fellow executive producers Tim, Graham, Sarah and Carl, the Elmore Leonard estate as well as our partners at Sony Pictures Television, for making this possible.”

Back in June, we spoke to Dave Andron about working on the new series, and he claimed the show is an eight-episode “one-off” and doesn’t necessarily set up a full return for the “Justified” ongoing series. We’ll just have to wait and see how that pans out.

A release date for “Justified: City Primeval” has yet to be announced.
