Kate Beckinsale Offered Sharon Stone Role In 'Total Recall' Remake

Eva Mendes & Rosario Dawson Contenders For Role Of Melina

As it gears up to shoot later this year, the “Total Recall” remake casting is in full swing and no surprise that director Len Wiseman is once again finding a role for his wife and “Underworld” star Kate Beckinsale.

Deadline reports that an offer — that, let’s face it, will probably be accepted — has gone out to the actress for the role of Lori in the film. As you might remember from the 1990 Paul Verhoeven film, the part was played by Sharon Stone and it made her a star. In the story she plays Douglas Quaid’s wife who isn’t quite all that she seems. As for the other female lead role, that of the love interest Melina, it seems like Jessica Biel — who was eyeing the film not so long ago — may be out of the mix for now. Eva Mendes and Rosario Dawson are said to be serious contenders to snuggle up with Colin Farrell instead.

The future-set story follows Douglas Quaid, a factory worker begins to think he’s a spy, but he doesn’t know whether it’s for Euromerica or New Shanghai, one of the two superpower countries in this world. Bryan Cranston plays Vilos Cohaagen, the leader of Euromerica who is plotting to invade New Shanghai.

Beckinsale is currently shooting “Underworld 4: New Dawn” and her official confirmation of the part, while not locked in, pretty much seems like a formality at this point. The film is gearing up to shoot this summer and is already scheduled for August 3, 2012.
