Also Lines Up Serial Killer Pic ‘The Frozen Ground’ With John Cusack & Nicolas Cage
So, Katherine LaNasa comes to the table with some pretty interesting factoids. She’s the ex-wife of both French Stewart and Dennis Hopper (and the mother of Henry Hopper who you saw in “Restless“), and while her name might not be familiar, she’s been working steadily for years, mostly on TV, racking up appearances in a number of shows. Maybe you remember her as Lydia in “Two and a Half Men” (see above) or Beverly Ford in “Big Love.” She was also the lead on the short lived NBC sitcom “Three Sisters.” But the actress is making a huge leap into feature films, and with three projects on the horizon you’ll be hearing her name and seeing her more often.
First up, LaNasa has landed the role of Will Ferrell‘s wife in “Dog Fight.” Nope, it’s not a new movie or a remake of the River Phoenix/Lili Taylor flick. It’s actually the unfortunately re-named “Southern Rivals,” which co-stars Zach Galifianakis in the Jay Roach-directed comedy about two politicians jockeying for position in a small congressional district in South Carolina. Sarah Baker has also joined as Galifianakis’ wife. Of course, with the election looming next year the movie has been positioned to take full advantage of that, with an August 10, 2012 release date already scheduled. Frankly, with Ferrell and Galifianakis involved, this movie could be about lawn moving or making toast, but either way, the promise of seeing these two square off against each other is just too good.
LaNasa will also take on wifely duties in the serial flick “The Frozen Ground,” where she’ll hang off the arm of John Cusack who plays killer/predator Robert Hansen, who over the course of 12 years abducted, tortured and raped over 24 women, flying them to the Alaskan wilderness and hunting them down before killing them. Written by Scott Walker, who will also make his directing debut, the film features an awesome/bizarre cast that includes Nicolas Cage, 50 Cent and Vanessa Hudgens. So obviously, this is a must see.
Finally, we didn’t know Robin Wright had been cast in Billy Bob Thornton‘s next effort behind the camera, “Jayne Mansfield’s Car,” but it doesn’t matter because LaNasa has replaced her. No word on her role, but the movie is a sausage party, starring Robert Duvall, John Hurt, Kevin Bacon, Robert Patrick and Ray Stevenson in the 1969-set dramedy about the clash of cultures between two families. We’re guessing she’s play a wife in that one too. Who says there aren’t any good roles for women in Hollywood?
