After the release of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” fans seemed to be a bit polarized about the three Sequel Trilogy films. That’s putting it lightly, sure, but there are still some people out there that enjoy those movies and hope to see Rey, Finn, Poe, and the other new characters in potential new projects. And one of those people is Kathleen Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilm and the person who steers the “Star Wars” ship.
Speaking to Empire, Kennedy talked about how there are discussions about where we might see some of the Sequel Trilogy characters in the future. Though, she’s not keen on sharing exact details about who might be showing up.

“Certainly, those are not characters we’re going to forget,” said the Lucasfilm boss. “They will live on, and those are conversations that are going on with the creative team as well.”
While she doesn’t say which characters could be showing up in the future, judging by comments made after the release of ‘Rise of Skywalker,’ it’s safe to say that there likely won’t be new projects with John Boyega, who has been vocal about his displeasure with how Finn was handled in the three films. While she hasn’t been nearly as vocal, Daisy Ridley has spoken up about not being super enthusiastic about returning to “Star Wars.” And Oscar Isaac seems to have a mountain of projects in his future, so unless it’s merely a cameo, we likely won’t see him show up in any big capacity. So, perhaps there are more Rose stories to tell?
One thing Kennedy would speak out about is the upcoming “Obi-Wan” series coming to Disney+. Specifically, she talked about the emotional reunion between Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christiansen, who reprise their Prequel Trilogy roles for the new series as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader, respectively.
“The thing that was most exciting was being on the set and watching the two of them get excited,” said Kennedy. “They hadn’t seen one another in a long time. I was surprised at just how incredibly emotional it was for each of them to find themselves back in these roles, and just realizing how important ‘Star Wars’ was to each of them. It was the beginning of their careers.”
That series doesn’t have a formal release date set yet, but it’s assumed we’ll see “Obi-Wan” sometime in 2022. As for the return of Sequel Trilogy characters, that’s completely up in the air, as it could just hint towards cameos that could show up anywhere. We’ll just have to wait and see.
