Just when you think that maybe Keanu Reeves is beginning to wrap up his action career (there were insinuations that maybe his next “John Wick” could be his last), the actor has recently signed on to what might be his most violent and bloody film to date, “BRZRKR.”

According to THR, Netflix has recently signed on to produce and distribute a new film, “BRZRKR,” starring Keanu Reeves. The film is based on the recently-released comic book of the same name that is co-written by Reeves and is already one of the best-selling comics of 2021. The comic (and, thus, the film) follows the story of an immortal warrior that has spent 80,000 years fighting various battles. He’s a half-mortal, half-god that is cursed with immortality and the compulsion to carry out violence. The story picks up in the modern-day where he is attempting to figure out the truth of his dilemma and possibly how to end it.
As mentioned, “BRZRKR” is based on a comic that is co-written and co-created by Reeves, alongside talented writer Matt Kindt and artist Ron Garney. In only two weeks of release, BOOM! Studios has sold 615,000 copies of the comic, which is a massive number for a publisher not named Marvel or DC.

In addition to the news that Netflix is working on a live-action film based on “BRZRKR,” the company is also working on an anime spinoff of the potential franchise, as well. Clearly, this is something that Netflix is banking a lot of money on. And honestly, after the success of “The Old Guard,” which also is based on a comic book about immortal warriors, you can’t blame Netflix for thinking this is a good idea.
A release date has yet to be announced for “BRZRKR.”
Here’s the synopsis:
BRZRKR is a brutally epic saga about an immortal warrior’s 80,000 year fight through the ages. The man known only as ‘B’ is half-mortal and half-god, cursed and compelled to violence, even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the earth for centuries, B may have finally found a refuge — working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, B will be granted the one thing he desires — the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence … and how to end it.
