With almost two dozen films, in the studio’s catalog, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is becoming a very crowded place. The list of Hollywood stars that populate the superhero universe is staggering, and growing seemingly every day. So, it’s frankly more surprising when you find an actor that isn’t in the MCU. And that’s the case with Keanu Reeves. Judging by this filmography and popularity, it’s shocking that the “John Wick” star hasn’t become a Marvel hero or villain just yet. But according to a new report, he was in line to make his debut in a little over a month.

According to a rumor posted by a contributor to That Hashtag Show, Keanu Reeves was in line to play the mysterious role Jude Law landed in the upcoming “Captain Marvel.” In fact, he was all set to go until the pesky “John Wick Chapter 3” came to be, and thus, Reeves had to bail on the project.
If not for John Wick 3, [Reeves would] have been Yon-Rogg. He was set to take the role and then, when he had to drop out, they moved SUPER QUICK on Jude Law,” tweeted Charles Murphy.
There are a couple of things that we can take away from this news. First, Keanu Reeves is destined to be part of the MCU, and soon. How about one of the many characters set to populate “The Eternals?” Or perhaps a villainous role in “Black Widow?” He plays a mighty good assassin, huh?

Another thing to take away is that it appears that “John Wick Chapter 3” came about awfully quickly, with Reeves having to reshuffle his schedule (and lose out on that sweet, sweet MCU money) to reprise his titular killer. But who are we kidding? As much as “Captain Marvel” is guaranteed to be a blockbuster, Reeves needs to keep “John Wick” in the public eye, so we can’t blame him.
That being said, just watch all those “Captain Marvel” trailers and imagine Reeves instead of Law. Not saying it would be any better, but it damn sure would be really interesting.
