Ken & Barbie Plan Dream Vacation In New 'Toy Story' Short

On the one hand, Pixar is easily the best animation studio currently running in Hollywood but on the other hand, we can barely muster fake enthusiasm for “Cars 2,” the souped up sequel to the 2006 (merchandising) hit. However, when “Toy Story 3” director Lee Unkrich announced last summer that “Toy Story” characters would continue to live in a series of shorts with the first one landing in front of “Cars 2,” suddenly we had a reason to be somewhat excited for the forthcoming sequel. Now, story artist Floyd Numan has stoked those flames of anticipation slightly revealing on Twitter that he has seen the new short, and while he doesn’t seem to be aware of where it will land, it’s a pretty safe bet this will be the one unspooling next summer.

“Saw the Pixar Hawaii short. Cute,” tweeted Numan. Who later added, “Ken and Barbie want to go to Hawaii. I don’t know what it’s gonna be attached to. Fun stuff, however.”

No word yet if Michael Keaton and Jodi Benson reprise their voices roles (we assume they do), but they were easily a highlight of last summer’s “Toy Story 3,” with their breathless romance playing out with all the drama of a teen fling. And clearly, it appears Pixar are ready to shine the light on the secondary characters in the short while giving the ever popular Buzz and Woody a rest (for now).

“Toy Story 3” was a critical darling and box office behemoth, crossing the $1 billion mark at the box office, plus adding countless millions from whatever crap was stamped with the characters. While we’d love to believe that “Toy Story 3” is the last outing for everyone’s favorite toys we won’t be surprised if they’re taken out of the box for one more playdate. [DigitalSpy]
