Kevin Feige isn’t one to just spill the beans on the surprises in upcoming Marvel movies, but "Ant-Man" is a different case. It’s a lesser known character in the Marvel-verse, and while it has a bunch of familiar faces in the movie, none of them are summer blockbuster stars. Moreover, it’s a tricky premise, that doesn’t have an easily saleable hook, like the way "Guardians Of The Galaxy" promised a fun space adventure. So the studio has been really pushing "Ant-Man" to the masses, including putting a six-minute preview in front of IMAX screenings of the biggest movie on the planet right now, "Jurassic World." And just in case hardcore fanboys might be thinking of skipping out, Marvel’s honcho has promised the appearance of new character to the Marvel Cinematic Universe: The Wasp.
“She factors in a number of spoiler-ish ways,” Feige told MTV. “But we will see Janet van Dyne in action in this film, and sort of what happened to her.”
Just how the character will appear hasn’t been made clear (Evangeline Lilly plays Hope Van Dyne, fyi) so you’ll have to speculate in the comments section, but the character is one Marvel has been trying to introduced for a while now. In fact, early drafts of "The Avengers" had The Wasp as the female hero instead of Black Widow. But once Scarlett Johansson was confirmed to join the movie, Black Widow became the priority again.
"Ant-Man" opens on July 17th. Check out some TV spots and new images below.
