Kevin Feige Confirms 'Deadpool 3' Will Be R-Rated & In The MCU

Sure, we already saw reports that “Deadpool 3” is in the works. And it was already reported that Ryan Reynolds is leading the way by overseeing the creation of the script. But is anything really official in the Marvel Cinematic Universe until it comes out of the mouth of Kevin Feige? Not really. So, it’s nice to hear the Marvel Studios boss confirm the future of the Merc with a Mouth.

Speaking to Collider, Feige was asked about the upcoming threequel in the “Deadpool” franchise. And not only did the producer confirm its existence but also confirmed one major aspect of the film that fans have been very curious/worried about. That is to say, Feige made sure that everyone knows the Hard-R edge that people love in the “Deadpool” films isn’t going away anytime soon.

“It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now… It will not be [filming] this year,” said Feige. “Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.”

It would also appear from Feige’s own words that Deadpool will be part of the MCU, which is another question that people had about the character’s future appearances. How will the Fox character mingle with his new Disney-owned family? Will we see Ryan Reynolds call Captain America a motherfucker? Will Deadpool talk about having sex with one of the Avengers? Who knows? But it’s seemingly a possibility.

Barring any surprising news about another film getting the adult rating, it would appear that “Deadpool 3” will be the first feature from Marvel Studios to carry that R-rating. That is a huge change from what we all assumed would be the case for the studio, as Disney really isn’t in the business of making adults-only superhero films. But hey, it’s a crazy time and “Deadpool” is too much of a box office hit to ignore.

And if cameras aren’t actually rolling on “Deadpool 3” this year, perhaps we’re looking at a 2023 return for Reynolds’ baby, at the earliest. We’ll have to wait and see.
