Recently, we joked that Kevin Hart seems to always find himself cast as the comedic sidekick opposite action stars in films. We’ve seen it in “Ride Along,” “Central Intelligence,” “Hobbs & Shaw,” and even “Jumanji.” But in his upcoming Quibi show, “Die Hart,” the actor will get his chance to shine as the lead in an action franchise. Kind of.

According to Variety, Kevin Hart is set to star opposite John Travolta in the upcoming Quibi streaming comedy series, “Die Hart.” The show stars Hart as a version of himself, a comedic actor that is tired of being stuck in the sidekick role. He jumps at the opportunity to take on the leading man, action star status for a project, but is mandated to attend an action star school led by Travolta’s character.
In addition to starring in “Die Hart,” Kevin Hart is on board to produce. He’s joined by director Eric Appel and writers Tripper Clancy and Derek Kolstad.
The new series marks Travolta’s return to TV, which he has flirted with over the past four-plus decades, dating back to his “Welcome Back, Kotter” days. Since that series, he’s shown up in numerous TV films and one-off episodes of series. His most recent small-screen leading role was in the Emmy-winning FX series “The People v. OJ Simpson.”
“Die Hart” marks one of a ton of series featuring A-listers that is being developed for the forthcoming streaming service, Quibi. The platform is set to launch in April and is being created as a mobile-only streaming destination that splits films and TV series into “quick bites” (thus the name, Quibi) that run approximately 10 minutes in length.
No word on when we might see “Die Hart” hit the streaming service.
