Kevin Smith Says 'Hit Somebody' Will Be A 6-Hour Mini-Series Now, Teases 'Clerks 3'

nullSo, something must've happened in the past seven days or so, because when we talked to Kevin Smith last week, he was pretty certain his long-gestating hockey movie "Hit Somebody" was going to be standalone movie after being considered as a two-parter. "It's tough to get one hockey movie made, let alone two. So I've switched back to one movie. I had one-and-a-half scripts that I had to get down to one. I want to get it down to a 150-page script and I know that's longer than the average script length but I figure I give myself a two-and-a-half hour length on paper knowing that I'm really ruthless in editorial and I can get it down to 2, 2:05, because this is a movie that takes place over 30 years," he explained to us. But now it seems he's switching gears.

The filmmaker hit Twitter today and revealed that "HIT SOMEBODY is now gonna be a mini-series" with "6 hour-long episodes." Frankly, television seems like the perfect place for his story that spans a few decades and boasts a period setting, and we'd wager it's probably easier to get backing from an adventurous cable than a studio, where tentpoles still reign. So with that project now off the table as his final feature film, what will be Smith's last cinematic statement? Perhaps "Clerks 3"?

"So with the HIT SOMEBODY shift, the minute Jeff Anderson signs on, my last cinematic effort as a writer/director will be CLERKS III. #TaDA" he tweeted. He's been teasing this film for years, and never really seemed to be seriously working on it.

"I’ve always opened said musings with the disclaimer 'If I ever wanna make a flick about being in my 40′s, I’ll think of Dante & Randal first.' There are no concrete plans for a CLERKS III," he said in January 2011, and unless the open book filmmaker has somehow managed to keep this entirely under wraps, we'd wager it's still just an idea percolating around in his brain.
