Like we said, team-up movies are so hot right now, but forget about that pipe dream idea of Hugh Jackman‘s to bring together Wolverine, Spider-Man and The Avengers together into one CGI orgy of a superhero movie. Instead, let’s focus on what’s actually happening, and we’d wager it’s enough to get fans excited, especially with Comic-Con just around the corner.
THR reports that “Kick-Ass 2” director Jeff Wadlow has been set to write “X-Men” spinoff movie “X-Force,” with an eye to possibly direct as well. I’m not going to get into what mutants have appeared in the series, or even the history—because I haven’t read the comics and summarizing it would take forever—so there’s Wikipedia for that. But basically, they’re a new mutant team featuring new dudes and dudettes with new powers, though there is some crossover into the X-Men you know and love, with some familiar characters appearing and whatnot. But there are two essential questions that fans will mull over on message boards for the next little while:
1) What rights to which characters does Fox have? 2) Where in the ever-complicated timeline will this movie fit?
We reckon the Wadlow and Fox’s comic guru Mark Millar will sort all that out, but if anything, it means that the X-Men universe will not only be continuing, but likely expanding, because comic book movies are here to stay. We’re sure you’ve got some feedback on this, so let us know if “X-Force” is the right way to go and how they can do it right.
