'Kids In the Hall' Trailer: The Canadian Kings of Comedy Are Back May 13 On Prime Video

It’s not as well known as it was in Canada, but during the ’80s and ’90s, “The Kids In The Hall” was one of the most beloved sketch comedies up North, the heir apparent of SCTV. Consisting of comedians Dave Foley, Bruce McCulloch, Kevin McDonald, Mark McKinney, and Scott Thompson, “The Kids In The Hall” aired for five seasons from 1988 to 1995, then there was the 1996 movie, “Kids in the Hall: Brain Candy.” But besides reunion tours, one-offs, and the 2010 “Death Comes to Town” mini-series, that was basically the extent of the ‘Kids.’ Members found success in Hollywood and scattered around to different projects (Dave Foley was notably the first breakout star who had a long run on the American sitcom “NewsRadio”).

Well, 27 years after season five, “The Kids In The Hall” is returning to Prime Video for what is being called an (unofficial) season six, and yes, it’s pretty much the same sketch show with a lot of the same favorite characters.

In the new trailer—there’s a green-band and red-band one to watch below—there’s a “The Kids In The Hall” tombstone that reads 1985-1995; it’s dug up, and the gang is all there. “Who’s footing the bill this time, the devil again?” asks Dave Foley. “Well, sort of. Amazon,” says Mark McKinney in a meta gag that seems like it’ll be running through the series. The trailer definitely seems to poke fun at Amazon, but also the cancel culture that appears to be squeezing some comedians who believe they’re being censored and aren’t allowed to be funny. Hopefully, the boys are just satirizing that complaint and not actually buying into it, but time will tell.

Additionally, you can watch the trailer for “Kids In The Hall: Comedy Punks” a new documentary that is going to premiere at the Hot Docs film festival in Toronto on May 3, coming to Amazon May 20. Perfect timing! Regardless, “The Kids in the Hall” are back. The new series begins on May 13 only on Prime Video. Check out the new trailers below.
