Filmmaker Matthew Vaughn has had his heart set on franchising the sh*t out of his “Kingsman” spy series. He’s had plans for a proper sequel to “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” hopes for a TV series and once discussed a prequel set in the 1900s called “Kingsman: The Great Game,” essentially a film that explores the origins of the intelligence organization. Today, evidence arrives the next “Kingsman” movie set for late fall 2019, unofficially dubbed “Kingsman 3” for now, won’t be a proper third film in the series, but instead, that ‘Great Game’ which would look at the spy organization at the turn of the 20th century.

It’s not confirmed, but today, Taron Egerton, the character Eggsy and the de facto lead of the series next to Colin Firth, revealed he wouldn’t be returning for the next ‘Kingsman,’ film.
“I’m not sure how hot off the press this is, and I think I’m allowed to say it, but I’m not in the next Kingsman,” Egerton told Yahoo today. When asked why he wouldn’t return to the series, the actor suggested anything would reveal the plan for the next film. “I don’t know if I’m allowed to tell you,” he said, while adding, “That doesn’t mean I won’t be a Kingsman ever again. I was with Matthew [Vaughn] as little as a few days ago and spoke to him. We’re very much still in business together; it’s just that his next journey in that universe doesn’t involve me. Which I think is sacrilegious!” he joked.
But clearly Egerton is not done with this series, and if all continues at the box office, you’ll likely see him in another installment of the series and perhaps that proper third “Kingsman” movie. “His idea for the new one is incredibly exciting, and I’m sad I won’t be on that journey with him, but it’s not the last you’ve seen of Eggsy,” he stressed.

The next “Kingsman” movie is set for November 8, 2019, which is only just over a year away (and the date previously held by the upcoming, now-delayed Bond movie). So, if they’re going to keep that date, they better start filming asap. It’s not official, but Ralph Fiennes and Harris Dickinson from “Beach Rats” and Danny Boyle‘s series “Trust” are expected to star. [Yahoo]
