Kristen Stewart Offered The Role Of Kei In Developing 'Akira' Remake

nullYes, it's yet another offer for "Akira," although this one brings with it even more ammunition for the already disgruntled fans of the original manga and anime.

Perhaps in a bid to court a wider demographic, Twitch reports that "Twilight" star Kristen Stewart has been offered the role of Kei, a medium and love interest for Kaneda that will be played by Garrett Hedlund, currently the only official cast member of the movie. If she does sign it will be a reteaming of sorts, as the pair both feature in the upcoming Walter Salles adaptation of Jack Kerouac's "On The Road." But as always, this is just an offer and this movie has had plenty so far.

Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham Carter have also received offers to play the The Colonel and Lady Miyako respectively, while Keira Knightley had also been contacted for a possible role, which was unknown at the time, though we assume it's the same one being proffered to Stewart. Meanwhile, Ezra Miller and Alden Ehrenreich are among those testing for the co-star role of Tetsuo in the film.

So who knows how this will wind up shaping out. The Steve Kloves-penned adaptation will be helmed by "Oprhan" and "Unknown" director Jaume Collet-Serra and is gearing up shoot in early 2012.
