Kristen Stewart Says She's Taking "Time Off" From Acting To Pursue Other "Creative Endeavors"

Still Alice, Playlist exclusiveNow at the age of 24, Kristen Stewart has experienced everything that comes with being in the spotlight. She’s had massive success with the "Twilight" series, proved her chops in smaller, independent films, has lived under the constant gaze of the paparazzi, had a big, public romance with a co-star, while also enduring the scandal that ensued when she strayed. And that’s not to mention a nearly non-stop schedule. It’s been a whirlwind and Stewart is getting off the train, at least for a moment.

"I’m taking some time off because I’ve been working for two years," she told USA Today. "I’m an actor and that’s my art form, and because I started so young, I’ve always felt intimidated and insufficient when I think about other forms of art I want to create. I’m going to take so much time off." So, what is she going to do with that time? Well, anything but act.

"I’m going to buy a live-work space in downtown LA and I’m going to make some (stuff) with my hands," Stewart continued. "Literally, I made that decision a few weeks ago. I’m making a short film. I’m making a bunch of (stuff). I don’t know how I’ll put it out. But I’m not going to hold it so preciously close to me. I write all the time." Indeed, the actress has already had some poetry published.

And if you’re concerned that Stewart might be going through a crisis, she insists all is fine. "Now, I really have no apprehension about anything, which is great. I can get behind all of my creative endeavors more so than ever before. I’m super happy and challenged and inspired and relaxed," she explained.

Stewart’s mostly recently wrapped film is Drake Doremus‘ "Equals" co-starring Nicholas Hoult, and she’s got "Still Alice" hitting theaters before the end of the year, with "American Ultra" with Jesse Eisenberg and the ensemble drama "Anesthesia" in the can. And while it remains to be seen how long this self-imposed break will last, Stewart has all the time in the world to recharge her batteries, try new things, and figure out what other avenues are creatively fulfilling in addition to acting.
