LAFF Exclusive: Poster Debut for Nathan Silver's Latest 'Uncertain Terms'

Uncertain Terms

The 2014 Los Angeles Film Festival (the 20th anniversary of the fest) kicked off this week, with the North American premiere of “Snowpiercer” on Wednesday. Plenty of other notable premieres are continuing to roll out this weekend, including Nathan Silver‘s latest, “Uncertain Terms,” and we’ve got the exclusive poster debut.

Silver’s films “Exit Elena” and “Soft in the Head” have brought him notice in the indie world — our own Chris Bell called “Exit Elena” “a layered and hilarious look at the dynamics of family, relationships, and need,” and “one of the few microbudgeted films which should be required viewing for
undergrads” — and “Uncertain Terms” marks the 30 year old’s fourth feature, with his fifth already in the works.

“Uncertain Terms” takes place at a home for pregnant teens, and stars India Menuez (seen in Olivier Assayas’ “Something in the Air“), whose performance has been tipped as having breakout potential, as well as her co-lead, David Dahlbom. Menuez is featured on this arresting one-sheet, seen below.

Director Nathan Silver says of leading actress Menuez, “she has an
extreme otherworldly quality that can be broken with childlike laughter; she plays off the situation and has a real knack for improvisation. You
can’t put your finger on where she’s going, she’s truly one of the few
people with a je ne sais quoi quality that I’ve come across.”

The official synopsis reads:

Needing a sudden escape from the city, Robbie leaves Brooklyn to stay in
the Hudson Valley with his aunt, who runs a home for pregnant teens. As
the only man in the house, Robbie captures the attention of many of the
girls, and when he strikes up a friendship with Nina, who is dealing
with her own relationship troubles, tensions run high in the house. In
trying to stop Nina from making the biggest mistake of her life, Robbie
finds himself caught in a love triangle between Nina and her baby daddy,
Chase.

Uncertain Terms” will be seen again at the Los Angeles Film Festival on Tuesday, June 17th at 9:30 pm.
