Lars Von Trier's 'Antichrist' Confirmed for Cannes?

Lars Von Trier’s new “psychological thriller / horror has been rumored to make its world debut at Cannes. And now from a throwaway line in a Variety article about Scandinavian horror films:

“Norway’s ‘Dead Snow’ has sold to 48 countries, Finland’s ‘Sauna’ has been sold to the U.S. and several other countries, and Lars Von Trier will present his horror film ‘Antichrist’ in Cannes.”

Variety like to do this: put news they’re aware of tucked away into larger articles as not to anger those who have not made an official announcement yet. Expect this one to happen.

The film chronicles a therapist’s (Willem Dafoe) attempts to treat his wife (Charlotte Gainsbourg) after the loss of their own child by retreating into the woods, where they learn that their child might be tangentially related to the coming of the Antichrist.

Variety says the film has not been shown to the press yes, but insiders who have seen it say the film is “horrifying as well as philosophical.” LVT succumbed to a self-described, crippling depression after completing “The Boss Of It All.” in 2007 and this his first film ever since.
