Latest 'Star Wars: Episode 7' Rumors Swirl Around Benedict Cumberbatch, Saoirse Ronan & Simon Pegg

It’s been just over a week since we last talked about “Star Wars: Episode 7,” and at the time, it was all about Benedict Cumberbatch‘s seeming denial about turning down Guillermo Del Toro‘s “Crimson Peak” so he could do J.J. Abrams‘ film instead. Well, it looks like the internet insists he’ll still go to a galaxy far, far way…

The dudes over at Latino Review are claiming that Cumberbatch’s denials are to be taken in the same way as his deflections early on about playing Khan in “Star Trek Into Darkness.” The site insists that Cumberbatch is in the movie, and while his role in ‘Episode 7’ is “very small,” it will be bigger in “Star Wars: Episode 8” and “Star Wars: Episode 9.” So, we’ll see how that all works out. Meanwhile, the site also reveals that Saoirse Ronan went in to read for a part, though which role remains unclear. There are apparently a couple female roles up for grabs including Han Solo’s daughter and apparently a villain too, but again, it’s a long way from reading to getting an offer to signing on.

Lastly, Simon Pegg himself has scuttled any chances of making an appearance in the new trilogy of the film. “I don’t think it would be appropriate for me to be in it, to be honest,” he told The Independent. “I think J.J. should cast new faces with no stunt casting. I wouldn’t want to be popped out of (enjoyment of) the film by a knowing cameo. I think it would be great to do it properly.”

“When we watched the first ‘Star Wars’ I didn’t know anybody—even Alec Guinness and Peter Cushing, who were emissaries from a more classical acting world,” Pegg continued. “For me as a kid it was all new faces. I believed every single one of them. I think, let’s not be post-modern about it.”

So, from not knowing anybody to a new “Star Wars” trilogy that may feature Benedict Cumberbatch and Saoirse Ronan. How the times have changed…
