Laura Harring Says 'Mulholland' Sequel Rumour Overstated, New Lynch Film To 'Manifest Soon'

Last month, we reported that Laura Harring was “very sure” a sequel to David Lynch’s “Mulholland Drive” was “being born.” Given Harring’s vague wording and the almost ridiculous nature of the idea in general, we were somewhat skeptical.

In an interview with MovieLine, Harring has unsurprisingly gone back over her original interview and, for all intents and purposes, retracted the idea of a ‘Mulholland’ sequel. Check out what she says regarding the matter of creating ‘Mulholland 2’ buzz below:

“You know what? I didn’t mean to do that. The truth is that David is always creating, and I’m in constant touch with him and his wife Emily. We just have such a good time. I didn’t mean to say what David is doing or not doing, but we definitely have talked about collaborating in the future. We’ve talked about it several times. I’ve heard a piece of music that I believe could be…[long pause] in one of his films. Please don’t get me in trouble, Kyle!”

So however genuinely intriguing or hugely disappointing a ‘Mulholland’ sequel could have been, there’s nothing to suggest that Lynch actually had this in mind beyond the apparent desire to work with Harring again. But Harring does allude to a new Lynch film, saying “I know that there’s another film that’s going to manifest soon. That’s my impression anyway.” Though she seems more confident in saying this than the ‘Mulholland’ sequel, we’re not buying anything until we get solid reports on Lynch filming new material.

The director unfortunately seems to have become less and less concerned with dramatic filmmaking in recent years (and more and more concerned with Transcendental Meditation), so we’re looking forward to any potential works Lynch has left in him. Until then, look out for Lynch’s “Catching The Big Fish: Part II,” a documentary sequel to his book of the same name dealing with Transcendental Meditation and the creative process. And hey, if he has no problem making a film sequel to a book, then just maybe we’ll see a ‘Mulholland’ sequel some day in novel form.
