Emma Stone’s mother bear character from SNL’s “Wells For Boys” skit succinctly sums up my reaction upon learning of the breaking news that the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas has been subject to legal discrimination complaints for daring to host women-only screenings of “Wonder Woman”: “You have everything, EVERYTHING IS FOR YOU, and this ONE THING is for [US].”
It is disheartening to say the least that the whinings of little discontent leech boys who can’t comprehend the simple fact that not everything in pop culture and entertainment is created for their consumption could be given legitimacy by the legal system. If they think this is gender discrimination, they need to crack open a history book. The jaw-dropping idiocy and pettiness of male chauvinists, and the institutions that support them, truly has no bounds.

Oh, and to top this crazy sh*t sundae, the distinguished hosts at Fox News are upset that Wonder Woman, a fictional Amazonian warrior princess, is not “American enough” and lacks American patriotism. Once again, Fox showcases the quality and intelligence of hosts they hire for their news program.
The one silver lining of this disturbing, disgusting debacle is that “Wonder Woman” is on track to break industry and box office records for female directors (looks like $100+ million this weekend), and will hopefully make a big crack in the film industry’s glass ceiling. If another “Wonder Woman” film is in the cards, which would be a given for any male superhero film with the numbers “Wonder Woman” is tracking, Patty Jenkins is contracted to direct the sequel. At least we can breathe a sigh of relief that Jenkins won’t become another female director to be chucked to the side like garbage from the property she nurtured and directed, as Catherine Hardwicke (“Thirteen”) and Sam Taylor-Johnson (“Nowhere Boy”) were respectively for “Twilight” and “Fifty Shades of Grey.”
