Lea Seydoux & Gad Elmaleh Join Michel Gondry's 'The Foam Of Days' With Audrey Tautou

nullEven though he's currently hard at work on his community-based, lo-fi and sci-fi tinged "The We & The I" inspired by a process book based on "Be Kind Rewind," Gondry has been quietly casting up the movie he'll do after that. Over last summer, two of the biggest names in French cinema — Audrey Tautou and Romain Duriscame aboard, and now two more starry bits of talent, who have also been making waves internationally, are joining the cast.

Lea Seydoux and Gad Elmaleh — who both recently popped up in Woody Allen's "Midnight In Paris," in addition to starring in "Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol" and "The Adventures Of Tintin" respectively — will both feature in Gondry's new effort titled "The Foam Of Days." An adaptation of Boris Vian's "L' Ecume des jours." The fantastical story follows Colin, the wealthy inventor of olfactory-musical-instrument the pianocktail. He marries Chloe, but unfortunately, she falls ill during their honeymoon thanks to a water lily that enters her lung, and the only way to treat the ailment is to surround her with flowers — and the expense soon drains his funds.

Overall, it's a pretty colorful piece of source material (there's lots more to it that's best left unspoiled) with lots of opportunity for Gondry to pull out his creative arsenal of visual tricks. This is certainly the biggest cast he's worked with in a long time, and we're excited to see what the pairing of a top shelf cast with this kind of material will bring. Filming on the French language film is expected to begin later this year. For now, Gondry is in post-production on "The We & I." [Variety]
