We’ve already gone on and on about the immense talent signing up with HBO this season so we thought we’d let facts speak for themselves this time: among all the actors and directors developing new programming at HBO this season, we counted at least 30 Oscar nominations and 9 Oscar wins.
The latest addition to that nomination tally is “Precious” director Lee Daniels who is set to team with Amy Bloom for a multigenerational, multiracial family drama. The project has been in the early stages of development at the network for a while but with Daniels now on board, should progress quickly. We haven’t been overly impressed with Daniel’s work so far but this does sound right up his alley.
“I realized that she had the same sort of mind that I had,” Daniels tells Variety. “Her writing is very similar to my sensibility. She has created a world that is layered with complexities. It’s a different medium for me, it’s fresh.”
Daniel isn’t the only nominee at this year’s Oscars to move into a HBO project either with Kathryn Bigelow teaming with John Logan on drama “The Miraculous Year.” Hopefully Bigelow can also add one more for the Oscar win tally this Sunday.
