If he hasn’t already, Leonardo DiCaprio can go ahead and clear some space on his mantle for the Oscar that’s coming his way for "The Revenant." That’s about the only lock for the awards show later this month, and the actor isn’t wasting any time in setting the wheels in motion for his second nomination.
The actor has signed up to star in "Conquest," a new film that boasts a script from "The Revenant" co-writer Mark L. Smith. The screenwriter’s previous credits aren’t so hot ("Vacancy," the recent "Martyrs" remake), but "The Revenant" clearly marks him as a major talent, and DiCaprio’s endorsement only seals the deal. Smith is also currently writing "Collider" for Edgar Wright which has been brewing for a few years now, and the blockbuster video game adaptation "Ghost Recon." Plot details on "Conquest" are being kept under wraps for now.
The project is set up at Paramount, but no word yet on where it might fall on DiCaprio’s schedule. [Deadline]
