Since Leonardo DiCaprio won the Academy Award for Best Actor for “The Revenant” in 2016, we haven’t seen much of him, which was expected after it was reported that he planned to take a lengthy hiatus after that film. While he’s made appearances in TV series, documentaries, and has been running two successful companies, we have missed him on the big screen. But with his role in the upcoming Tarantino film, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” DiCaprio is poised for a big return. And for his next, next project, DiCaprio is re-teaming with another famous director.
Recently, Deadline reported that Leo may be adding another film to the list of upcoming projects, as he is in talks to be teaming up with Steven Spielberg, which will be the first time since “Catch Me If You Can,” for a Ulysses S. Grant biopic. The film, which has been acquired by Lionsgate and Appian Way, is based on the New York Times best-selling biography “Grant” by Ron Chernow, which is being adapted by screenwriter David James Kelly. The film will potentially be a follow-up to Spielberg’s award-winning Civil War-era film “Lincoln.”
However, it may be a while until this project comes to fruition, as Spielberg is currently prepping “Indiana Jones 5,” which he plans on filming early next year. Then, later in 2019, the legendary director is scheduled to tackle the remake of the classic musical “West Side Story.” Spielberg’s latest film, “Ready Player One” was released earlier this year and has grossed over half a billion dollars at the global box office.
As mentioned above, DiCaprio has taken some time off since his Oscar-winning role but is definitely lining up a series of projects that will get film fans talking. His previous team-up with Spielberg, in the aforementioned “Catch Me If You Can,” scored DiCaprio a Golden Globes nomination.
