Well, here’s a refreshing promo idea that deviates from the usual trailers/posters/TV spots/featurettes approach of most blockbusters—an interview with a character from a movie. Fortune magazine snared an "exclusive" with Lex Luthor from "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice," in a piece that doesn’t even mention the movie at all. Instead, it reads like any standard profile of a business mogul, but there are some tidbits in there that fans will certainly enjoy.
Perhaps the most interesting is Luthor’s not so thinly veiled assertion that Superman (see "speeding bullet") represents a real threat to the planet. "We live in the most dangerous point of time in all of human history. Statistically speaking, it’s a near certainty that another world-changing crisis is hurtling toward us like a speeding bullet. We have to be ready to defend ourselves. No civilization was ever conquered by having a strong military," Luthor said, defending his involvement with military contractors, something Wayne Enterprises has turned down time and again.
But both LexCorp and Wayne Enterprises give heartily to charity, with Luthor taking a little swipe at Bruce Wayne and his reputation outside the conference room. "It’s not a competition," Luthor said. "Besides, I can’t hold a candle to those guys in the debauched billionaire playboy department!"
Fortune also mentions that Kord Industries is also a corporate player in Luthor’s world — is this a tease of Blue Beetle aka Ted Kord in ‘Batman v Superman’? Hmm. Don’t forget, there’s already chatter of a Blue Beetle and Booster Gold team-up movie in the works, so it’s something to consider.
Meanwhile, Luthor promises to save humanity his own way. "Handouts don’t change the world. The true gift of LexCorp is our products. We are on the cusp of unveiling a technology that will change the world forever," he teases. "It’s about safety. This is a product that will protect you, and everyone, from threats you don’t even know about yet. I don’t want to scare anybody… much. But there are a lot of threats out there, and they’re here today."
We’ll find out what the villain has up his sleeve when "Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice" opens on March
