While his older brother Chris Hemsworth launched himself to worldwide fame with “Thor” earlier this year, Liam Hemsworth will soon join his sibling in the ranks of mega-movie fandom. Set to star as Gale Hawthorne in the upcoming “The Hunger Games” the actor is looking to take his shirt off again for the ladies and boost his action credentials alongside a bunch of old guys.
That’s right, “The Expendables 2,” which currently has the creaky bones of Sylvester Stallone, Randy Couture, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger on board with Chuck Norris, John Travolta and Jean Claude Van Damme all rumored/working out scheduling issues, will get a infusion of young blood courtesy of Liam Hemsworth. According to Variety, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren and Terry Crews are also expected to return but at this point, though it seems casting of the returning old timers seems to change day by day because no one wants to go to Bulgaria to make the damn thing. Plot details are still up for debate but the story will apparently be largely set in a fictional Eastern European country.
There’s no word yet on Hemsworth’s role (our guess: he’ll play somebody’s son — this isn’t a Charlie Kaufman film we’re talking about here), but as fans of the the first film know, he was originally set for a role (along with a handful of other people) before it was jettisoned by the constant re-writes on the movie. But it looks like Sly is now making it up to the young actor.
Simon West is going direct this thing that will land in theaters on August 17, 2012.
