Update: Sources close to the film reveal that Lindsay Lohan is not being considered and will not be cast in “Live By Night.”
Fresh out of rehab with a movie arriving this week (“The Canyons“) and gigs lined up, including an eight-episode docu-series on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network and a guest-hosting slot on “Chelsea Lately,” it seems everyone is invested in Lindsay Lohan finally rising above her checkered, troubled past. But is a major studio ready to take a gamble on her staying healthy by casting her in a lead role in an upcoming film?
Well, according to Showbiz 411 she is apparently close to signing on to Ben Affleck‘s brewing “Live By Night.” The project, which Affleck will also star in and direct, is based on the novel by Dennis Lehane, a Prohibition-era tale set in Boston, centering on Joe Coughlin, the son of a cop who finds himself slipping into a life of organized crime. Lohan reportedly might play Emma, the woman who gets between the two lead characters. But we’d proceed with caution before getting too certain Lohan has landed the gig.
First of all, is she even insurable? Her behavior alone has made it very hard for the actress to land gigs that require a legal signoff that she’ll arrive on time and do the work. By all accounts, her actions on the set of “The Canyons” were unpredictable at best, which doesn’t seem like the biggest endorsement to sign her up. And while she might be out of rehab, there’s still a long way to go before she can prove to people that she’s successfully moved on from her destructive tendencies.
And then there’s the simple fact that Affleck’s next job is starring in David Fincher‘s “Gone Girl” which shoots this fall, with “Live By Night” not expected to mount up until after that’s wrapped, possibly in 2014 (though others have suggested the movie could make a release date next year). So perhaps Affleck is getting his ducks in a row so he can roll with “Live By Night” right after he’s done working with Fincher, but this Lohan tidbit seems lot more like wishful thinking, though we suppose stranger things have happened.
