So it was only yesterday that we were discussing the possibility of Jim Carrey joining the sequel to 2010’s “Kick-Ass” – a film the comedian is reportedly a big fan of. He would be joining a cast that has Aaron Johnson, Chloë Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and maybe even Nicolas Cage all returning, as well as a handful of new additions including Donald Faison and Morris Chestnut. But even yesterday it looked like a long shot, and despite Carrey’s apparent love of Matthew Vaughn’s film, The Hollywood Reporter is saying that their sources think the chances of Carrey taking the role of Colonel Stars (a mobster-turned-fundamentalist-Christian-turned-superhero-recruiter) are slim — presumably the smaller budget of the sequel to the underperfoming original can't quite afford him.
So where does that leave “Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall”? Well, still searching for a Colonel Stars for the time being. If they can’t get Carrey we’d love to see maybe Peter Stormare or Will Arnett, or if Matthew Vaughn could call up one of his old contacts, then how about Kevin Bacon, or even better, Jason Statham? We’re just throwing names out there at random to be honest, but new director Jeff Wadlow is clearly looking for ‘a name’ actor to take on the significant and showy role in the sequel.
Another supporting role has been filled in the meantime though, and "Kick-Ass 2" has found its Night Bitch. She’s another member of the sequel’s supergroup, Justice Forever, and she became a superhero after finding her sister’s dead body in a dumpster. Lindy Booth (“Dawn of the Dead”) has snagged the small role, and at first glance it looks like she might have been an easy choice given her short red hair is very similar to the comic book character's, plus she worked with director Jeff Wadlow previously on teen horror "Cry Wolf." Expect lots of casting updates to follow, with the film still looking for its Colonel Stars, Lieutentant Stripes, Remembering Tommy, Rocket-Man, The All-Seeing Eye, Moon-Bird, The Enforcer, and new villain, Mother Russia. Looks like Mark Millar went character happy with this one. Although at least some of the other names are a little more subtle than Night Bitch.
