Listen: 3 Pieces From Michael Giacchino's Score For 'John Carter'

nullWith Disney's years-in-the-making, reportedly $300 million, sci-fi specatacle "John Carter" hitting theaters in just over a month, it's likely we're going to be hearing and seeing lots more from the film soon. And while the jury is still out on whether the film will live up to the cult status of the Edgar Rice Burroughs source material or the money that has been spent on the project, at the very least, the reliable and always solid Oscar winner Michael Giacchino is scoring the film, so if that even if our eyes aren't pleased, our ears will be.

Back in December, the composer visited the program "Movies On The Radio" on WXQR and brought with him three selections from his "John Carter" score, which have found their way online. And yes, they reach the high standard of quality Giacchino has established with his previous efforts. "Dejah's Theme" and "Pursuit Of Dejah" offer up a nice constract, the former a more romantic, evocative piece while letter pumps up the energy for a chase sequence. But the best of the bunch is "John Carter Theme," which almost sounds baroque in its opening strains, before opening up into something that really captures the Earth to Mars journey our hero takes.

Take a listen below to the pieces along with the radio show at the end. "John Carter" opens March 9th. [via /Film]
