Listen: Adele's "Skyfall" Returns Bond Theme To Classic Territory

nullWell, that was inevitable. Not even 007 himself could stop Adele's "Skyfall" from leaking early (it's officially set for a premiere at 7:07 p.m. EST tonight or 0:07 am in the U.K. — you get the connection, right?) and now that it's arrived via a rogue French radio station (sacre bleu!), it confirms that it's as strong as we had hoped.

The last two movies in the Bond series — "Quantum of Solace" and "Casino Royale" — went the alt-rock route with Jack White and Alicia Keys tuning up the former with servicable results, while we'd rather forget the ear poison that was Chris Cornell's contribution. But Adele's tune swings right back into the classic Bond themes of yore, with a big 77-piece orchestra and her beautiful, expressive voice doing all the heavy lifting that's required. Sure, it's not breaking any new ground, but it does the familiar very, very, well, though we wonder how it will fit against the standard naked lady silhouette dancing intros that are beginning to get stale. Maybe Sam Mendes will shake that up a bit? Let's hope.

Anyway, "Skyfall" by Adele will be available to on own on Bond Day (tomorrow), but for now, turn it up and hit play below.
