The title premise of Chris Rock’s terrific new comedy, “Top Five,” is that you can tell a lot about a person from learning who they choose as their top five MCs in hip-hop. In the movie, Rock names Jay-Z, Nas, Ghetto Boys rapper Scarface, Rakim from Eric B. And Rakim, and for the fifth and final pick you can watch the clip here. Naturally, the movie contains songs from almost all these hip-hop icons and many more.
Details for the soundtrack have been released and the album features everyone named, minus Nas, but as a plus contains cuts from Slick Rick, Public Enemy, The Roots, Ghosface Killah, and others.
Def Jam released the album digitally yesterday, so you can download it now via iTunes or most regular digital outlets. Check out the tracklist and listen to all of it below.
Additionally, as a pretty great bonus, watch this "Top Five" roundtable where Rock, his co-star Rosario Dawson, and a big group of hip-hop journos and radio personalities, including Miss Info, Angie Martinez, Jayson Rodriguez, Shaheem Reid, Ed Lover, and Datwon Thomas, weigh in on their fave rappers of all time.
