Listen: James Franco's Musical Act Kalup and Franco, Debut EP Hits July 12th

Short Gucci-Sponsored Film ‘Rebel’ (Maybe) About Brad Renfro Gets An Amazing Billboard

The man of a thousand trades, James Franco, is already quite the renaissance man so why not add musician to his already lengthy list of various artistic activities? Frankly, we’re surprised it hasn’t happened sooner.

Pitchfork reveals that the jack-of-all-trades Franco is getting ready to drop some musical knowledge, teaming with video/performance artist Kalup Linzy for an EP titled — wait for it — “Turn It Up.” It will be released on July 12th on the Dutty Artz label founded by the pretty awesome DJ/rupture. So what can you expect? We frankly have no idea. The duo promises to make videos for each song on the two track EP — featuring the tunes “Rising (Both Sides Now)” and “Turn It Up (So We Can Turn It Out)” — featuring lots of guest cameos as is de rigeur these days. As for the sound, well, judge for yourself. There is an excerpt from one non-EP track below, which is amazing and then you can see Kalup & Franco belt out “Proud Mary” live after that.

And that’s not all Franco is up to. He’s got a short film coming titled “Rebel” that may or may not be about deceased young actor Brad Renfro. It also has something to do with James Dean apparently. It’s art, so don’t ask too many questions okay? It’s sponsored by Gucci and has an amazing billboard snapped by Showbiz 411 which you can check out below. FRANCO4EVER.
