This holiday season, Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi is taking his Icelandic brand of lovely post-rock to the silver screen, scoring Cameron Crowe’s “We Bought a Zoo,” which has so far gotten the “It’s good for what it is” stamp of approval from most critics, including us.
While we’ve been waiting eleven years for Crowe to make another “Say Anything…” or “Almost Famous”-type personal film, it’s nice to see that he’s still aiming for street cred with the soundtrack (if nothing else).
If you were busy making turkey and cranberry sauce sandwiches during the Thanksgiving weekend sneak preview, you can catch "We Bought a Zoo" when it opens for real on December 23rd. In the meantime, check out Jónsi’s soundtrack, which is streaming at Rolling Stone’s website (and is available for purchase beginning December 13th). The album’s been getting some positive notices: Pitchfork even took a break from spewing vitriol about Donald Glover’s rap album to give the "We Bought a Zoo" OST a 7.0.
The soundtrack song “Ævin Endar” is below, and if you like Jónsi fine, but just want the bullet points, an 8-minute soundtrack sampler is also here for you.
